LO- To be able to examine the purposes and techniques of 3D animation used in the media industry.
Definition of 3D Animation: 3D animation is a moving 3D image which includes moving images using three sides to each object on the environment, including the environment its self.
Example
TV/Film;
Video Games;
TV Idents;
Music Vid
This video uses a lot of flash colours and visual effects, changing the singers looks and filtering over the top.
When comparing these different animations means there are different purposes to each one. In a animation movie it is all bout the movement of characters and how their actions react, however in films and cartoons the story would've already been planned out with storyboards and scripts etc. The animations are created show a certain behaviour of the characters. In a music video 3D animations can be used whether to show the story of more, to flow with the music more and immerse people or for special effects, for example in the 'goosebumps' video Travis Scott has a snake coming out of his eye, when in the song his lyrics refer to Medusa who was known for having snakes as hair. Doing this obviously has its purpose because it shows more effort has gone into to transferring the story to the audience not only using the lyrics but the video also. When making a game 3D animations are very important to show the certain movements and animations in a character. Whether the developers want their game to look realistic or very cartoonish, the animations are going to help them transfer the different uses of each one. In a game the movement and animations along with the storyline is the most important features.
Fifa 18 – XBOX ONE
Using my research on Fifa 18, I can see different points that are big influences into the animation and look of final game.
-Purpose
FIFA 18 is all for the reality in the game, the developers at EA have thought widely out on how they can create a player in the game to act exactly like the player does in real life. Using special 3D cameras they can get a full perspective of each angle of the players. Therefore making the football fans more immersed and excited in the game.
-Strenghts/Weaknesses
The main strenghts of the 3D animation is the way the players act so similar like they do in real life, for example , Cristiano Ronaldo has a signature run, freekick line up, technique and celebration, because of how popular in the football world he is, a lot of different players will use him, EA use this for a lot of the best players in the world, they update the players in the game to have the same haircut they do in real life, the same tattoo’s, celebrations etc.
The weaknesses are they are not used for every player on the game, EA cannot go out to every club in every division to define every single player and watch how each of them run and kick a ball, it would just cost too much and be way to much effort. So EA decide to get the star vehicles (best players) and use them as they would be used the most used players and get the most attraction towards the game.
-Charateristics
The animation has several distinct characteristics, one of these is the movements of the characters when celebrating. I have inserted a clip of a few of the signature celebrations.
Edwin Catmull created a small bird animation named Piper and a hand which was in fact the first animation.
He influenced the industry by making the first 3D animation and a lot of other creators which has now made a lot of different films using 3D animation.

In this screenshot of my movement and 3D animation plan, you can see the different movements I would like to learn and create. The orange boxes show the fighting or attacking animations I would like to make. The red boxes show the normal movements in the game I would again like to implement. The green boxes show the standing motions and the blue show the pick up or drop animations.
The purpose of my game is to make players enjoy it and to have fun whilst playing, the game is addictive and to let them have an experience of being on an island with zombies. The game feels like a fake reality and players won't get to into it so it actually affects their real life. You can chose to have a gun armed also to the character 'Mr.Crabby' who you are controlling. I got my idea from using market research to look where I could create a game which isn't on the market yet and how I could impact the market and fill the gaps.
Game Brief- The Searching
Idea and summary of game
My idea is a 3D survival island game. You are a first person character who travels around the island trying to stay alive, finding food and water and fighting enemies to keep alive.
I think that if I develop this idea in a good way then the game will be good and enjoyable to play, I also think that this is a unique game and will be very fun to play alone.
This is a unique game as it is very fun and different to games like it because of the different assets will make it unique to other games like it.
My target audience is 12+ because of the surviving aspect of the game.I chose 11+ because of the zombies in the game and I think the game isn't too bloody or there isn't any bad language of bad behavior placed in the game.
The skills I will need to complete this is knowledge of the software to make the game which is 'Unity' and how to use assets and set the game up correctly.
My game will be made and created on Unity. There will be no soundtrack in the game so the player can be more immersed into a solo, survival life-style. The controls on the game are very easy to use and they are the WASD keys on keyboard or the arrow keys, the mouse will be used to look around as it is a FPS and the space bar key will be to jump, using the mouse you can click on the food/drink which are highlighted and then you can choose to place in the inventory or to eat/drink at that current moment.The enterprise skill I used here was deliberate thinking, I used this and looked at the three games similar to mine, to see what I could do differently and I had to also use problem solving because at the start I thought my ideas were to similar to the games. I started slowly which drawed me back and made me get a little behind in my work, I then started to use prioritisation and time management which helped me work better and quicker then I caught up and started to work better to a schedule.
Although I have changed some of this and your character is now a clown on a deserted island, where a main circus he performed at is now destroyed and abandoned.
Technical Considerations
There can be issues on the production of the game trailer and this can include problems from the equipment or the software that I will be using. For example Adobe Premiere can malfunction and close down during the production or the rendering of the trailer, I will have to add problem solving skills and for example I can use a replacement for the Adobe program and switch it to Sony Vegas Pro. The only problem about this change is that the trailer will not be the exact same this is because the softwares have different presets and effect options.
- My clown model, this asset will be used to create all of my animations onto. Making all the limbs, joints and then portraying the animations to move each limb to make each animation.
